Marinas mushroom amid skyrocketing luxury boat sales
| The Middle East’s luxury pleasure boat sector continues to expand dramatically – it now accounts for almost a fifth of global super-yacht sales. Surging luxury boat sales have, in turn, generated massive demand for mooring facilities. Regional seafront developers have responded by building one luxury marina after another. Across the Middle East and Gulf, from Lebanon to Kuwait and Dubai, Egypt to Bahrain to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, marinas are being constructed and planned, or have already been completed. Meanwhile, the infectious regional passion for boating and water sports, fuelling the marina construction flurry, shows no sign of slowing. |

2nd Conference on Marinas and Seafront Development
| For the second time, marine industry decision-makers, developers and investors, multinational corporations, financial institutions, marina and seafront property owners, academics, and government officials will converge on a conference organized by the Arab Marine Industries Association (AMIA) in collaboration with The World of Boat & Yachts magazine, concurrently with the 2006 Beirut Boat show. Together, they will marvel at the revenue generated by successful waterfront development projects, and chatter about those in the pipeline or underway here in Lebanon, and about the multi billion dollar projects in Dubai and other parts in the Middle East. Conference attendees will underscore the benefits of marinas as barometers of social advancement and cultural melting pots and discuss ways of maximizing the regional marine sector’s potential, paying particular attention to Lebanon’s marine industry assets. Debate will also center around the need for government industry-supporting legislation, notably investment, insurance, and commercial laws to protect local and international private investors. Finally, the myth that marinas necessarily harm the environment will be dispelled. |

Investors pumping billions of dollars into marina development in Lebanon & the region
| Soaring regional demand for boats over the last few years has spurred massive investment in waterfront development. Over the next five years, a whopping $20 billion will be invested in the sector. A stunning $1 billion has already been spent on marinas and seafront developments in Lebanon alone. |
| |
Regional visitors to Lebanon grow by over 100 percent as tourism and marine facilities expand
| For the past years, Lebanon has returned as a favored tourist destination with a full range of historic, natural, and cultural attractions. International arrivals are growing by more than 40% annually covering different nationalities, and the number of highly sought after Gulf visitors has doubled over the last two years. Beirut International Airport is host to some 36 international airlines. Recently built marinas and water front facilities constitute a major part of the boom. Coming in direct response to the increasing demand of boating and other water sports activities, immense projects are underway on the costal line of Lebanon starting from the South up to the North. |
